Abigail North

Abigail North trained in ceramics in London and Devon and worked for a year as a studio assistant to the potter Penny Simpson. She now works from her own studio situated in a barn on the edge of Dartmoor.

Her concentration on achieving a satisfying marriage of shape and form for each piece is apparent. Abigail makes mainly bowls and vase forms which tend to be finely thrown with narrow tapering bases. The exteriors have a matt finish and the interiors are glazed with a shiny transparent glaze. The earthenware range utilises a palette of earthy colours, whilst the stoneware ranges are decorated in a variety of hues. In addition, a 'bubbly stoneware range' is produced through the addition of oxide stained clay within the clay body.
