Chieko Kanaya
Chieko Kanaya began making pottery in Ireland in 1979, and went on to start her own kiln near Mashiko in Japan. She lived in a pottery town, and living amongst other craftsman gave her a great deal of opportunities to learn about the trade. Chieko is a self-taught potter who has developed her own style through many years of practice.
Although Chieko likes experimenting with different clays and styles, she particularly likes working with wheel thrown stoneware and brushwork decoration.
Chieko has worked and lived in Devon since 1995, where she teaches as well as continually practising and developing her craft.
