Susan Deakin

“Working at home in a small studio, I have my own press to make monotypes, drypoints, linocuts, woodcuts etc. The medium is chosen to suit the subject and the eventual setting for the piece, if it is known.

“Walking in the countryside around my home provides much of the material for my prints and drawings. The particular landscape of the South Hams is a recurring theme for my drypoint engravings and woodcuts. I enjoy the way the land seems fitted together from its various elements, the trees, hedges and fields, rather like a jigsaw puzzle.”

Commissions include work for The Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. Susan’s work is held in many collections, including St Peter’s College, Oxford, The Victoria and Albert Museum, Dartington Hall Trust, London Institute of Education.

In 2003 she received an Art’s Council award for a collaborative project, “New Eyes on the Old Road”.

Susan has been a member of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen for over 20 years.
