Gabriella Bailey

Gabriella Bailey (born 1999) is a figurative painter who grew up in Dorset. Her main subjects are figure compositions and still lives, which she usually paints directly from life in the studio, whether it be an arrangement of objects and flowers or a sitter before a linen backdrop; she also works from quick sketches made out and about.

Seeking above all to capture the presence of her surroundings, Gabriella tends to work in an immediate and intuitive manner: her paintings are characterised by rapid brushstrokes, simplified form, and a joyful freshness of colour which she uses to create light and space. Gabriella has been gently influenced by artists including Christopher Wood and Gwen John and the lyrical tradition to which they belong.
