James Tatum SWAc

Artist Statement

"My goal is to combine close observation with an intuitive, visceral response to the overall environment. The paintings are a record of
the total sensory experience of being in particular place and a particular time."

James Tatum moved from Canada to the U.K. in 1987. James has drawn and painted for most of his life. After a long career in industrial design and engineering, he moved from London to Devon in 2007 in order to paint full time.

His landscape paintings begin en plein air with a series of drawings, watercolours and acrylics, and are completed in his studio in Exeter.

He regularly exhibits throughout the U.K. and in the U.S.A. , Holland and Switzerland.

His paintings are in collections in the U.K., Holland, France, Italy, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the U.S.A.
