WE ARE delighted to host Vanessa Cooper’s fifth solo exhibition at White Space Art. She remains one of the gallery’s most popular and sought after artists due to her unique blend of sensitivity, humour and joy. That’s before we talk about the playfulness, use of colour and appealing naivete in her paintings.
Walking daily through Dorset’s ancient valleys and hollows, she is driven to describe in paint her everyday findings in the natural world.
From here magical stories and imagined dialogue unfold onto the canvas, where the surface and texture are as important as the subjects and colours within the painting.
Vanessa continues to explore her response to the changing environment with her statement paintings of interdependent animals, birds and trees. Complete with their ornate frames, which Vanessa painstakingly decorates herself, the detailed works remind us of the fragility of the life cycle.
These are placed alongside her cheeky and celebrated animal scenes and the bountiful vases of flowers to create an uplifting world of pure imagination.
Vanessa’s work is collected around the world, with regular solo exhibitions throughout the UK. Group shows include the Royal West of England Academy and the Royal College of Art. Her paintings have been featured in national publications.
